Elaine Decker, MS, Licensed Professional Counselor enjoys working with a wide age range of individuals, families, and couples (ages 5 to 63) to guide them toward understanding their life’s story, as well as help them work toward reconstructing a new healthier way of living. Whether it is anxiety, depression, bipolar, ADHD, ODD, anger, grief, couple’s issues, chronic illness, or trauma experiences as presenting concerns, Elaine works with clients to help them understand themselves and their old story from a Narrative perspective and uses a CBT and EFT approach to therapy to develop skills toward a new story. It is from this base of understanding that healing and growth allow for a new personal story of healthier coping skills and greater fulfillment and meaning in life. Elaine is described by her past clients as “very compassionate, humorous, and open”.
Elaine earned her Master of Science Degree from Illinois State University in 1987. She has worked in the field of mental health services starting in Illinois in group homes for 5 years, and then various organizations in Grand Rapids including Wedgewood and Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. Elaine joined Psychology Associates in December of 2015. She has specialized training in EMDR Level 1 & 2, and IFS (Internal Family Systems therapy) for working with trauma, EFT training for working with couples, and Military Sensitivity Training for working with military veterans and families.
